Boston University offers an Athletic Scholarship Program for exceptional athletes pursuing undergraduate or graduate studies. This program is designed to provide financial support to help develop their sporting skills and help them reach greater levels in their sporting endeavours.
As a Sports Scholarship beneficiary, you can apply for a funding amount of up to £5,000. This financial support can be used for various aspects of your athletic development, including training, equipment, competition entry fees, travel expenses and/or support services.
Once you have received a Sports Scholarship, you will be asked to meet with the Sports Performance Director to evaluate how the funds will be used to support your sports goals throughout the academic year. In addition, you must commit to attending at least 75% of training sessions, represent BU in sporting competitions where possible to promote SportBU initiatives, and agree to appear in marketing materials.
- To be eligible for the Sports Scholarship Program, you must show exceptional performance in your chosen sport and be part of a regional, national and/or international team while competing at that level.
- Ideally, scholarship recipients will represent Boston University both in the BUCS program (league and individual) and themselves and/or their club at regional, national or international levels. Additionally, individual athletes must possess the competitiveness to excel among the top performers in the BUCS program.
- As part of your application for a Sports Scholarship, it is essential to provide a reference from a high performance coach or national governing body coach. If you are applying for a sport that is not included in the BUCS programme, you will need to provide two references with your application to support your eligibility for the scholarship.
The Sports Scholarship is available for courses commencing September 2025 and January 2024. It is important to note that scholarships cannot be deferred to a later date. The application deadline for courses starting in September is 31 August, and for courses starting in January is 30 November.
